Sandra Austin, Lower Hutt, New Zealand I started painting porcelain over 26 years ago. Going to classes once a week to learn from Ngaire Leahy at her home. I joined the Lower Hutt Porcelain Art Association at the same time. My love of porcelain painting has become more than just a hobby and I now have been able to sell some of my pieces at a local gallery with great success. I love to experiment with the different types of materials that are available, for instance lustre, texture paste and glass. Recently I have found that designing projects before starting to paint has been far more rewarding and beneficial as this has given me more confidence. So much better to complete something that has been your own idea. For the last 2 years I have been able to paint two days a week with another artist at her studio. She has been teaching me other disciplines including drawing and sculpture work which has helped me to create new projects with more designs elements. The bonus has been the that she has now become interested in learning porcelain painting. We have been having a great time exchanging ideas and techniques.
